COVID-19 Republic of Mauritius and a safe Blood Donation campaign

We are an island state, blood and blood derivatives are in constant need. Essential to health and paramedics, the Republic of Mauritius made provision for Blood Bank and the Mauritius Blood Donors Association.

Every year countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system. The global theme of World Blood Donor Day changes each year in recognition of the selfless individuals who donate their blood to people unknown to them.

COVID-19 placed multiple restrictions and limitations, with collaborations from Non-Governmental Organisations namely Benevoles Sans Frontiers, medical practitioner Dr S Prayag and associates. where the community adheres to sanitary protocols, maintains preventive measures through constant precautionary initiatives, each individual may come forward to either donate or volunteer during a blood donation campaign.

Donating blood is as symbolical as breeding new hope and allowing any individual irrespective of race, ethnic group, disability, religion and beliefs to contribute in his/her own right towards a family, community and nation.

Each one of you either a donor or as a volunteer can come forward aspiring to collect one pint of blood.
